In the largest class-action lawsuit against General Motors, a group of attorneys are seeking to sue this company for an amount of more than $10 billion. The lawsuit is a result of the company's manufacturing of defective ignition switches that have led to around 30 deaths. The lawsuit includes every new car with this device installed that was sold between July 11, 2009 and July 3, 2014.

Types of Vehicles Recalled

The defective Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Saturn vehicles that used GM ignition switches were recalled because the operating switch can be moved from "on" to "off" while the vehicle is still in use. When the vehicle is in high speed, even hitting a bump in the road could cause the sensitive button to switch off.

The recall includes 780,000 of the following:

  • Chevrolet Cobalts
  • Pontiac G5's

842,000 were later added to the lawsuit:

  • Saturn Ion compacts
  • Chevrolet HHR SUVs
  • Pontiac Solstice
  • Saturn Sky sports cars

All of the above recalled vehicles are defective because of their ignition switches.
